Guru Venkata Ramana

 

Venkata Ramana has been teaching Kuchipudi Classical Dance and is the founder of Mayura Academy (School of Performing Arts) in India and Sydney.

The journey of dance in Venkata Ramana's life began at the age of 8 when he was first introduced to Ms K. Vijaya Lakshmi by his parents. She discovered his strong inclination towards dance and taught him the fundamentals of Kuchipudi which had a great influence in Ramana's dance career.

Ramana's passion for dance did not end with the certificate course as he took further training under the guidance of Sri Pasumarthi Seshubabu, son of a traditional Kuchipudi guru Sri Pasumarthi Venu Gopala Krishna Sarma for about 5 years. Venkata Ramana, under the guidance of Sri Pasumarthi Seshu Babu had the opportunity to perform in various ballets and programmes. He also had the opportunity of performing at Kuchipudi village, the birth place of Kuchipudi dance in Sri Siddhendra Jayanthi Mahotsavam. 

Ramana, while studying for his Masters in Performing Arts has been trained by Dr. Anuradha Jonnalagadda garu in the technique of Kuchipudi and specialised Abhinaya from Sri Kala Krishna, Nattuvangam by Sri Pasumarthy Ramalinga Sastry garu, The Tala System and Aesthetics from Late Padmasri Dr Nataraja Ramakrishna garu and The Theory of Dance from Late Dr P.S.R. Appa Rao.

  • ‘RAASAVILAASAM’ –Ballet performed in Ravindra Bharathi-A prestigious production by the university of Hyderabad.(1996) 

  • ‘MACHBETH’ – worked for back-stage produced by National School of Drama and S.N.School. 

  • ‘BAKASURA’ – produced by S.N.School Actor, Make-up and Back stage support. 

  • Performed in ‘FESTIVAL OF KUCHIPUDI DANCE’ at Kuchipudi village (the birth place of Kuchipudi classical dance). 

  • Also worked for back stage in many plays of S.N.School. 

  • Choreography of ‘Pancha Bootas’ – Classical Ballet on the five elements of nature. 

  • Performed in Holi Mela 2005 conducted by Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan
